Dental Public Health

Jacobi Medical Center is one of eleven municipal hospitals in the NYC Health + Hospitals public safety-net healthcare system. The Jacobi Dental Public Health (DPH) Residency is a novel hospital-based program located in a Dental Health Professional shortage Area (DHPSA) in the Bronx, New York. The program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association and is designed to meet the certification requirements of the American Board of Dental Public Health. Our location and resources present an ideal environment in which to study and apply dental public health principles and practice.

The residency experience includes planned instruction, observation, and active participation in a comprehensive program that includes training in all aspects of dental public health. We are academically affiliated with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine which enriches residents’ training and experience in research and interprofessional education. In combination, these components provide new trainees with the skills to assess population health needs and use data to drive health programs and system processes. Upon completion of the residency, Jacobi DPH graduates will have a broad-based community-level vision of health issues that affect populations as well as the ability to collaborate interprofessionally with other healthcare providers, community representatives, policy makers, and the public.
