||GPR - General Description|
The Department of Dentistry/OMFS of the North Bronx HealthCare Network offers a one or two year general practice residency. It is situated at the Jacobi Medical Center(JMC) and the North Central Bronx Hospital(NCB) and includes outpatient and inpatient care. The number of residents varies from year to year. For 2010-2011 there are ten first year positions and three second year/chief residents. The facilities on both campuses (Jacobi and NCB) afford an excellent opportunity to learn and practice all phases of dentistry under the direction of highly accomplished practitioners.|
The East Campus (Jacobi) is comprised of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Jacobi Medical Center A map of the East Campus is available at http://www.aecom.yu.edu/home/map.htm. The Jacobi/Bronx Municipal Medical Center is comprised of Jacobi Medical Center and the Rose F. Kennedy Center. Jacobi Hospital (Bldg #1) is the primary site utilized for emergency care, oral surgery training, and operating room experience. JMC (Bldg #1) is the primary site of comprehensive ambulatory dental care for adults and children. The Rose F. Kennedy Center (Bldg #3) delivers dental care to patients with developmental disabilities. Jacobi Medical Center is designated as a Level 1 trauma center. This means that the residents have unique opportunities to work with emergency room personnel and dental residents treating patients who have sustained maxillo-facial trauma including dento-alveolar fractures, lacereations etc.
JMC sponsors its own Pediatric Dentistry program and is a part of the 6-year dual degree Beth Israel / Jacobi Medical Center / Albert Einstein College of Medicine OMFS program. Additionally, we have a 2 year ADA accredited Dental Anesthesia program. All of the residencies work together in a team approach providing comprehensive care and in-patient coverage. Jacobi Medical Center also maintains the only approved Dental Public Health Residency Training Program in the New York City Area. This affords the residents the opportunity to gain experience in community dentistry programs as well.
Located on Pelham Parkway,across the street from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, the Jacobi Medical Center serves the community residents in this urban landscaped area of the Bronx. The population is mixed lower and middle class with a variety of dental insurance plans.
General practice residents function as Associates of the Attendings and provide appropriate care to their assigned patients. The program is designed to help the resident find diverse clinical experience and grow in confidence while under the guidance of experienced practitioners.
